YOUR HELP NEEDED URGENTLY - SAVE THE LAKEWOOD BATTING CAGES - Dear Local Baseball/Softball Family -

You may not be aware of this, but the Lakewood Batting Cages (on Paramount by the LB Airport) is scheduled to close their doors for good on May 31st, 2013! This is due to their monthly lease, which they have had for countless years, not being renewed by the local union that owns the land.

The Lakewood Batting Cages has been one of the most supportive organizations for youth baseball and softball, that can be found anywhere. They have served the local communities for over 25 years, and are a landmark for the endless stream of players who spend their time and money to work on improving their game.

We know that youth sports helps build character and prepare kids for the tough road ahead as adults. It also keeps them out of trouble and focuses their attention on positive endeavors.

Please let your voice be heard in support of the LAKEWOOD BATTING CAGES! Follow the links to sign their petition right away, and get all of your friends and family members to do the same. 

We have a very short time to make an impact here! 

We need the entire baseball and softball community to come together and support this great facility and the WONDERFUL people who operate it!

We can't let them down, after all that they have done for us!

We, the undersigned, respectfully call upon Laborer's Union 507 to renew the property lease for Lakewood Batting Cages at 3901 Paramount Boulevard, Lakewood, CA effective immediately.

Lakewood Batting Cages has operated in the same location continuously since 1987, and during this time has developed strong relationships with the local community, playing a vital role in the training and education of nearly every organized youth and adult baseball and softball league in Lakewood, Long Beach, Carson, Los Alamitos, and Downey.

We submit this plea for a lease renewal of Lakewood Batting Cages for the following reasons: 

1. The facility's role in sports training and education of community youth and adults

2. The facility's numerous contributions to community schools and organizations

3. The facility's role in the early training of High School, College and Major League players

4. The negative effect that the facility's closure will have on the community

Wilson bounced back from the extra-innings loss to Poly on Tuesday night at Blair Field by returning to Blair last night and blanking Cabrillo, 6-0, with a no-hitter from Schuyler Hill. The senior righty struck out 12 Jaguars while walking two and escaping jams created by four Bruin errors.

"He went out there every inning and pounded the striule zone, kept hitters off balanceand had a great tempo," said sophomore catcher Chris Betts, who added it was the first no-hitter he's caught. "It was awesome."
